Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the Easter break and of course the recent bank holidays. Due to those, this is a shorter than usual newsletter but I would appreciate a close reading!

Congratulations to students in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 who participated in the Rome International Schools' Football tournament on Saturday. Extra special congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 'A' team who went on to win the entire tournament.

Good luck to all of our students in Years 11-13 who are beginning examinations in IGCSE and A-levels. We wish them well.

I would like to share news of staff appointments and some changes for the academic year 2017/2018. We will be welcoming John McSweeney as teacher of History in the secondary school. John currently works in the UK and impressed us with his recent interview and lesson observation. He will be teaching History at Key Stage 3 and 4 and Geography at Key Stage 3. Lawry will continue with A-level History teaching on a part-time basis. We will also be welcoming Stephen Trask who will become our very first teacher of Computer Science. Stephen is currently Assistant Headteacher of the British International School of Abu Dhabi. This appointment means we will be able to offer Computer Science IGCSE and A-Level from September 2017. Finally, I am hoping that Emma will be able to establish a school choir and enhance our music offering. The creation of the new Computer Science department and the expansion of music are two of the key recommendations made in our recent inspection.

Meet the Headteacher/Chairperson

As promised in my April newsletter, I would like to offer you the chance to meet me and offer some feedback on the school year. I would like to suggest two sessions for Primary and Secondary parents. These would take place on: May 31st 08.45-09.45 (Primary) with a second session for those who find mornings difficult at 15.45-16.45 (Primary). Coffee, tea and cakes will be provided! The Secondary School sessions will take place on June 7th at the same times. Please could you email areas you would like to raise to This will enable me to create an agenda and have some form and structure to the meetings.

Please sign and return the acceptance forms for the new terms and conditions and financial regulations as soon as possible.

Coming up in May

Year 11 will be offered a special week of lectures and lessons from May 29th-31st. The school will be providing them with information on the UK university application process and helping them choose the right combination of A-levels as they prepare for life in Year 12. Parents will be offered a similar forum on Monday 29th May at 18.00.

Artist Peter Swidrak will be working with the Primary School on May 10th and 11th.

The New School Rome football tournament takes place on Saturday May 13th. Details to follow.

The Year 1 and 2 residential trip takes place on May 25th and 26th.

Finally, Gymboree Play and Music are considering hosting one of their excellent Summer Camps at The New School Rome for two to three weeks in July. This would be aimed at children aged between 4 and 10. Activities would include music, theatre, art and sport. If you are interested please send an email to with the name of your child, age and week/weeks that would be of interest.
